Thanks for visiting today. I’m part of the Hot Summer Romance Giveaway Hop sponsored by the Insatiable Reads Book Tour.
We have two Grand Prizes. #1 is a Kindle Fire. #2 is a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate. Additionally, each of the blogs that you hop to will be giving something away. Here on my blog, you can win an ebook copy of my historical erotic romance, One Lord Down, whether you’re in the U.S. or international. Just leave a comment about my post below you’re entered to win.
I’ll announce the winner of my ebook on July 22nd. Grand prize winners will be selected from post comments via random number generation and announced on Malia Mallory’s blog, The ABC’s of Erotica.
I’m not going to hold you up much today, just a quick question really: Do you think the clothing of today is sexier than the clothing of about two hundred years ago?
For women’s clothing, we now have bikinis that leave NOTHING to the imagination, crop tops, short shorts, mini skirts, sports bras, and bare legs (for the most part, no one wears pantyhose or stockings anymore in regular life). Compare this to corsets, bustles, gowns with peekaboo lace over the decolletage, garter belts or garters, stockings, and layers of lace and petticoats. Sorry, I’m already picking out my next ball gown. You know which way I lean.
For men’s clothing, just saw this today: Here is proof positive that even one of the sexiest men alive, Orlando Bloom, cannot look good in baggy shorts pulled low. It just ain’t happening. The only thing cute in this photo is the dog.
Now imagine him in a duster coat, tight breeches, boiled white shirt, maybe a vest, tight breeches (oh, I said that already). Oh and boots. He’d have on sexy boots.
Just leave a comment and you’re entered to win.
Click on the blue froggy button below and jump to the next blog. Good luck!
While I wouldn’t personally want to wear dresses, I think the clothing from history is sexier than it is now. Most of today’s stuff is just tasteless and tacky. Thanks for sharing the awesome giveaways. evamillien at gmail dot com
Having trouble posting on my own blog today. But here’s another attempt.
Thanks, Eva, for stopping by. Good luck on the Grand Prizes. And I am in a dress today, knee-length, not floor length, due to the extreme heat.
Great post. itlnbrt @ att dot net
Hi, saw you on another writer’s blog. Thanks for stopping by.
Great post! Thanks for participating in the hop.

Seeing familiar monikers from other stops on the tour. Thanks.
Actually I love the clothing of 100’s of years ago. I think they are sexy not sure about the corset especially in the heat but it’s incredibly sexy. nothing is left to the imagination these days.
vampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)com
Yeah! A lady after my own heart. Thanks for stopping by.
I love period costumes. My husband and I have costumes for Ren Fairs for Scots (Highland), medieval (knight & lady), Renaissance, and pirate. He also has a WW II airman. We have a collection of several authentic knight outfits from the movies, including “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and “Kingdom of Heaven”.
I believe covering all is more alluring than baring all.
My husband does not like to dress up. Ever. Not for Halloween or a fair or anything. It’s a shame. You’re lucky that the two of you have found something so fun and creative to do together. Of course, my husband sometimes comes home with something for me to dress up in, but that’s another topic altogether.
The clothes that leave nothing to imagination aren’t really sexy.
Too right! Thanks for stopping by.
I don’t know about sexier, but it definitely covers less!
So many great books being added to my TRB list today!!
Thanks for being in the hop!

Thanks for the comment and stopping by. Enjoy the hop.
I don’t think I would have survived Iowa heat in those dresses, but time gone by was so much sexier. There’s something to leaving a bit to the imagination, the allure of what might be there. Thanks! heather1974 at gmail dot com
In the extreme heat, the women wore lightweight fabrics, and in the middle of the country, less corsets and fancy layers, more plain homespun, gingham, cotton, etc. They wore bonnets to protect their head or used umbrellas (parasols), and they stayed indoors and didn’t do much activity, if they were lucky enough to have a servant, of course. But I take your point, the dresses would be even more alluring without sweat and underarm stains, too, so I guess they were better in the colder months.
I would NOT want to have to wear them but the dresses of the past were sexier than the everyday wear of people today. It’s nice to show some skin but the imagination is such a powerful aphrodisiac that keeping something covered is a fantastic thing!

Yours seems to be the general consensus. So if more is sexier, then I should be glass that our daughters in 2013 are wearing less and less and less?
Damn you auto-correct. “Should be glad” not ” should be glass.”
I think clothing today is sexier.
bituin76 at hotmail dot com
Glad to have a maverick on board. Cheers!
I dont think the clothing today is better I think the older stuff is more elegant
i love clothing from the past…the corsets, ball gowns, men in long coats…Our wedding was actually more old fashioned without even trying! LOL
Thanks
staceyprice(AT)gmail.com
Good for you. My husband wore tails, too. I hope you all know I mean that his wedding tux had a tail, not any weird bestial tail attached to his pants. 🙂
I think there are pros and cons to both but the men’s were generally more sexy and some of the women’s it honestly just depends on the options 🙂
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

How come no one is commenting on Orlando’s bloomers? Come on, does he look good like that? I love Orlando, but puh-leez, pull up your damn pants!!
I absolutely agree with what was said above 🙂
I think today’s clothing is more revealing, but normally not sexier. Thanks so much for the giveaway/hop! Kyla Patton- kamclauc AT gmail DOT com
You’re very welcome. Good luck.
I think clothing today is.
Thanks for the chance to win!

Even Orlando’s bloomers?
Clothing from the past, so elegant.

Thanks for the contest
I like the looks of clothing in the 1800’s but many of it would not be very comfortable. And I think that is what guides us today. but have they pros and cons.
strawberryrose@earthlink.net
True, can’t argue with the fact that whale-bone was not as comfy as a Victoria’s Secret push-up.
I definitely think that clothing 200 years ago was sexier than now. However, I don’t necessarily think that they were more comfortable. 😉
Thank you for sharing and for the opportunity to read one of your books.

Sometimes we must suffer for our beauty. No, just kidding. But the women probably got used to the pounds of fabric, right?
The clothing was sexier but not comfortable, maybe with our modern styles can be meshed. Thanks for the chance at this great giveaway and for participating in this hop!
huntress023(at)hotmail(dot)com
I think steampunk has already taken some of our fabrics and incorporated it into an historical, albeit fictional, look, often more suited to harlots than ladies, but still . . . we could do the same with less breasts hanging out.
I have always wanted to dress in historical clothes and go to a ball, but I wouldn’t want to wear that garb all the time. Thanks for the giveaway!
marlenebreakfield(at)yahoo(dot)com
Me, too. Wedding day was closest. Prom gowns nowadays are rather more elegant than in days gone by, but sometimes they wear only the corset and underskirt. Sigh!

Thanks,.
I think the clothing of today is a lot less than it was back two hundred years ago. So you get to see a heck of a lot more skin today so if you think that is sexier, I would go with the clothing of today. However, back then, you were covered up a lot more and most certainly had to use your imagination a lot more (this is for male and female both so I’m not going with gender specifics here). I like the clothing from back in history but I like to cover myself up more. That being said, it’s been so darn hot I’m not thinking it would be so nice to have to be so covered up lately!! Just based on the level of sexier though, my personal choice is that I think both men and women dressed far sexier two hundred years ago and I love when music videos, movies, and books bring you back to those days and you get a great blast from the far past.
Thanks for the giveaway chance! Sorry to cut this short but it’s 2am and I’m getting just a tad bit tired!
Hope everyone has a very happy summer,

Clothes make the man! I also think its hilarious that your picture happened to be of Orlando Bloom, my sister sweats him bad and I’m constantly picking on her for it. I tell her all the time that he ruined the movie Troy for me; not only did he kill Achilles (Brad Pitt) but he walked around without a shirt. LOL She gets mad at me all the time, so it never gets old. I personally love a man in a suit, there is sometime so sexy about it. A good suit can make almost any man look good.
dragon5174 at gmail dot com
Ooh, a new term: “sweats him bad.” Thanks for that. Orlando needs a few more chest and shoulder muscles to really own the naked chest look, but I do have a fondness for the skinny little guy.
i think the clothing from history is waaaay better. I thin leaving something to the imagination is far more exciting and thrilling. Ive been on the lookout for years to have a reason to wear something like that! Thank you so much for being a part of this hop and for giving me the opportunity to win! usmcwifey1(at)live(dot)com
If you attend an RT Booklover’s Conference, you can dress up to your heart’s content at the costume parties each night. Them writers is plum crazy folk!!
I love clothing from back in the day. Its not only pretty, sexy, its very…graceful. And conservative in a way. Todays clothing…is slutty. lol Thank you for the fun hop and giveaway! 🙂
shadowluvs2read(at)gmail(dot)com
Yes, conservative with that hint of what’s going on under there.
I think what makes clothing from 200 years ago seem sexier today is choice — we can wear jeans today or we can wear a corset to look sexy — but we don’t HAVE to walk around in 100 degree heat (with no air conditioning anywhere) in 30 lbs of petticoats with your waist compressed to 23 inches (which precluded eating….and all but the most shallow of breathing, BTW). The romanticized version of something is ALWAYS much more attractive than the reality!
Thanks for the amazing giveaway!
elizabeth @ bookattict . com
Oh, boo, don’t rain on my fantasy parade. Just kidding, and you’re absolutely correct, but then, some days, romanticizing is all that gets me through the day.
I love the clothing from history. My favorite time period is from the 40’s.
